Capturing theatrical performances requires a specialised skill set; this is where we excel. We have a strong understanding of not only working in highly specialised lighting conditions but also a true sense of how to capture key moments in the theatrical story as laid out by the artists and directors of the pieces.
We are artistically sensitive, able to capture the grace of ballet, the raw energy of a rock concert, or the emotional intensity of theatre. Blending into the background and remaining unobtrusive allows for natural and candid shots.
Understanding the nuances of different performing art forms allows for a compelling visual narrative to be captured.

Performing Arts - Frequently Asked Questions
What types of performing arts productions do you photograph?
I photograph the full range of school performing arts — theatre productions, musicals, dance shows, concerts, recitals and ISTA festival events. I've covered productions ranging from intimate studio performances to large-scale multi-night shows with hundreds of students, and I'm equally comfortable with both.
Do you shoot during the live performance or at a dress rehearsal?
Ideally both, where scheduling allows. Dress rehearsals give the best technical conditions — more flexibility with position and settings — while the live performance captures the energy and audience atmosphere that makes the images come alive. I'm happy to discuss what works best for your production schedule.
How do you handle low light in school theatre productions?
Low light performing arts photography is a genuine specialism, not an afterthought. I use professional-grade camera bodies and lenses specifically chosen for stage performance conditions, and I never use flash during live performances. The result is sharp, atmospheric images that reflect the mood of the production rather than washing it out.
How quickly will we receive the images after a production?
Edited performance images are typically delivered within 5 working days of the final shoot date, via a private online gallery. Rush delivery of social images within 24 hours is available on request — useful if you want to post to social media while the buzz around the show is still live.
Can you photograph multiple nights of the same production?
Yes. For productions running over several nights, I can cover multiple performances to ensure every cast member and key moment is captured. This is particularly valuable for large musicals where the cast may change between nights.
Do you provide video as well as photography for school productions?
Yes. Noodle Photography offers both photography and film coverage for performing arts productions. A combined package covering a full production with both stills and edited video is available — get in touch to discuss your brief.
